In the 1940s when the soldiers returned from World War II the hot rod was born.  Taking old cars that had been abandoned in the farm fields as these boys went off to war, these industrious young men put modern engines and on big tires and the sport of hot rodding was born.

Between 1940 and 1960 hundreds of hot rod movies were made for teenagers to see in "Dusk to Dawn" showings at the local drive-in theaters.  In the last 50 years the greatest majority of them were lost or misplaced in the archives but we have been lucky enough to find a large number of these films and after digitally enhancing the badly faded originals, copies are now being made available to the public once again.

Many of the actors in these "B" movies used fake names and went on later to become well known stars.  Here we have two of those films just as they were shown in the 1950s including the original commercials.  Sit back and enjoy!!  Now showing...

Dragstrip Riot (1958) A very rare film starring Yvonne Lime, Gary Clarke, Fay Wray, Connie Stevens, Gabe Delutri, and Barry Truex.  Hot girls, hot cars, drag racing, chickie runs, and murder.  Great early pictures of Malibu and Irwindale Raceway.  Motorcycle punks begin harassing the hot rodders who end up winning in the long run.  Also features the original version of the teenage hit "Teenage Riot".

The Cool Hot Rod (1954) An incredible Hot Rod documentary from 1958 on what is a cool hot rod and how to drive it safely.  Filmed in Inglewood, California.

Length: 1 hour 59 minutes
